Biological Motions through the Lens: Workshops for STEM Educators and Students

Teachers and students joined researchers Dr. Weihong Qiu and Dr. Bo Sun to explore how OSU researchers are answering questions in biology and to visit their new imaging and research facilities at Oregon State University.

Biological physicists Drs. Weihong Qiu and Bo Sun introduce students from Kings Valley Charter School to the new Advanced Light Microscopy Facility and demonstrate how researchers use advanced microscopy methods to observe the actions of individual biological molecules.

STEM Educators study the real time movement of molecular motor proteins actively transporting cargo along microtubules and reconstruct the morphology and migration of breast cancer cells using a Zeiss total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscope and a Leica laser scanning confocal (LSC).
